After thirty years of development, the switched reluctance motor (SRM for short),with the characteristics of simple structure, high reliability, strong and durable, has beenwidely used in electric cars, household appliances, industrial engineering, aerospace andother fields. The majority of SRM structure is radial magnetic circuit, doubly salientstructure at present. This structure allows the SRM runtime has large torque ripple,whose value is an average of about15%. In addition, due to the torque ripple caused bynoise and the resonant also increases obviously under certain frequency. In order tosolve the two problems above, some literature increase the number of phase to reducethe step angle or use the control strategy based on torque ripple to achieve the purposeof reducing torque ripple; and with increasing of the stator yoke of methods to solve theproblem of noise and harmonic. But the effect is not significant, and it will make thestructure complicated, the cost is increasing and core loss because of the efficiency isreduced. So the article puts forward a new motor structure based on the axial magneticfield of the switched reluctance.This paper introduces some traditional switch magnetic resistance motor withdifferent phase, analyzes their magnetic circuit as well as causes of ripple and noise, andput forward a new type of structure: the Axial magnetic field switch magnetic resistancemotor (AFSRM for short), and made a series of research on the motor design. Magneticcircuit design is the basis of the electric machine design. The paper propose a novelform of magnetic circuit, stator pole axial configuration and magnetic circuit throughthe stator poles, the motor end cover, chassis form a loop. The motor has thecharacteristics of short circuit, small loss, larger radial size, large output torque, thesmall torque ripple, and suitable for the applications of low speed and high torque.First the paper put forward the AFSRM technical parameters according to the userequirement of the drive motor of the electric vehicles or hybrid cars. Using the existingexperience formula to the electromagnetic design of AFSRM, and determine the motorstructure dimension and electromagnetic parameters. Modeling the AFSRM partsmodeling and assembly in PRO/E, and introduce the manufacturing technology for the motor. Then the paper uses the finite element simulation analysis method to analyze theAFSRM in the aspects of mechanical structure and electromagnetic field, check themotor structure stress and strength, making the modal analysis on the rotor, andcalculating the critical speed. Then analysis the motor magnetic circuit saturationcondition, magnetic field characteristics and its operation characteristics, and the law oftorque ripple. At last, through the simulation analysis results to prove the feasibility ofAFSRM design, and concludes the relative advantages comparing with the traditionalSRM.
