In modern grid, there are many inductive loads such as motors and regulatormachines. When they are working, they need to absorb a large amount of reactivepower to achieve the energy conversion and drive device working. Thus, the electricpower is not completely supplied to active power, another part used to supply toreactive power, undoubtedly, this will lead to an excessive burden on the power grid,and reduce the efficiency of the power supply equipment. At the same time, thereactive current in the line will increase the network loss, reduce the life of thetransmission line and affect the quality of power supply seriously.At the same time, because of the rapid development of the global economy,people’s living standards have gradually improved, the usage of many high-powerappliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators and others have increased greatly.This make the power consumption of the low-voltage users also increase, the usersneed the higher requirements for the quality of the electrical energy.In order to solve this problem, the main measure is installing reactive powercompensation device in the proper position of the grid, so this article designed a deviceusing the thyristor switches capacitors which is suitable for the low-voltage power grid.In this design, we used both the voltage and reactive power as the switching criterion,the reactive power is the main criterion, and voltage is a secondary criterion. We alsocombined the thyristor and relay as complex switch to put in and cut off the capacitorbanks. The controller uses TI’s production TMS320LF2407A DSP as the maincontroller, the device is able to compensate the reactive power fast and accurately, andit can reduce the costs. And it has good practicality and broad application prospects inthe low-pressure city network.The thesis studied and compared a variety of reactive power compensators’control strategies, finally, we established a reactive power compensator which used thethyristor switch capacitors(TSC). This paper described the principle of the controlsystem and the process of hardware design, then we simulated the device hardware circuit by MATLAB/Simulink, at the end, according to the simulation results, wedesigned the software systems of the device.
