As with the rapid development of expressway, the improvement of GSM networkcoverage in expressway has become more and more important and urgent. Since terrainsaround expressway are always complex, and the number of base stations are not bigenough to provide larger coverage, we can hardly avoid unpleasant situations likecall-disconnection, call-drop, noise-mix, as well as switching-chaos while we makingphone call in expressways. This paper provided a "parameter-optimization andsignal-enhancement" plan for GSM network system to solve problems stated above.Firstly, we introduced the wireless communications principles, the GSM networksystem and the optimization objects, method, flows and appliance.Secondly, after detailed demonstrations and model comparisons, as well as in situtests had been done, we developed methods as follow to realize optimization. Adjustingthe antenna angle, the gain value, the azimuth angle and magnitude of power on the onehand, and matching the best locations, configurations and parameters to base stations onthe other hand, different optimization plans had been provided to adapt to differentenvironment and conditions.Last but not the least, we have not only stated the technical characters andsignificance of our parameter-optimization and signal-enhancement plan for GSMnetwork system, but also we applied it to the expressway network system of SichuanProvince, which is hard to deal with for its complex terrain environment, to test whetherthe new GSM works or not. As the result shown, a big increase of full call rate revealedthat our optimizations plan can help solve problem of GSM signal coverage in a fastestway with least cost efficiently, which is good news to mobile telecom operators.
