As PWM rectifier has many advantages such as high power factor, low harmonic content,four-quadrant operation and so on, it is applied on many occasions. Therefore, differentrequirements are put forward. The traditional PID control, widely used in the rectifier design,is mature and easy to adjust and implement, but difficult to meet a variety of differentrequirements. This work aims to apply Expert-PID to PWM rectifier control system under thepremise of analyzing its mathematical model and features,so as to improve the performanceof rectifier and find out the advantages and disadvantages.In the beginning, the mathematical model in synchronous rotating coordinate system ofthree-phase voltage source PWM rectifier is deduced. Then, Space Vector Pulse WidthModulation technique is expounded, which is necessary in the PWM rectifier control. Withthese theories, a double closed-loop control system based on Voltage Orientation Control isdeveloped.The PI controllers in the current and voltage control loops are designed using traditionalmethod. Then, combining the parameters of the traditional PI controller, a new controller isdesigned based on Expert-PID theories. Simulations based on transfer function models aremade to test the performance of new controller.To test and verify the previous designs and inference, an integral simulation modelwhich include circuit model and control system model are set up. The way how to build thesimulation model according to the previous theories from basic model to whole model isexpounded in this thesis. The results from simulation and their analysis are given.At last, a30kW PWM rectifier for experiment is developed, and the whole process ofhow to design the rectifier including main circuit, hardware and software of control circuitboard is explained. The results of research by the developed rectifier verify the theories andcontrol system design above is correct.
