Motor is the necessary equipment in power industry. Its development has a great contribution to power industry. With the development of modern technology, the demands and requirements for motor are getting higher and higher, so the performance of motor cooling fan as one of the most important factors will effect motor’s development. Therefore, finding out the main factors which effects fan’s performance will provide an important basis for the structure design of fan.Based on the fluid mechanics theory, this paper summarized and discussed the turbulence model. After mapping the cooling fan data on-site, then use CAD to draw the geometry structure of fan. Using Gambit pre-processing software to mash the fan model, then using the Fluent calculation software to calculate the model.By changing the original structure parameters of cooling fan, including the installation angle, tip clearance, blade numbers, obtained different models. Then carried out three-dimensional numerical simulation of obtaining models by using CFD method. Analyzed and compared the optimal structure parameters for the fan, found out the effect of flow and static characteristic under different structure parameters. Provided certain theory basis for fan’s design, qualitative and quantitative analysis in the future.1. Modified the installation angle of original fan, numerically calculated the fan’s flow field of six different installation angle models, analyzed the effect on fan performance by changing installation angle, found the optimal installation angle.2. Modified the tip clearance of original fan, numerically calculated the fan’s flow field of six different clearance of tip clearance models, analyzed the effect on fan performance by changing tip clearance, found the optimal tip clearance.3. Modified the blade number of original fan, numerically calculated the fan’s flow field of four different blade number models, analyzed the effect on fan performance by changing blade number, found the optimal blade number.
