Soft ground improvement techniques has developed very quickly in China in these years. However, due to the distinctiveness of the structure of thermal power plants, there are still some technological difficulties on soft ground improvement. Indeed, scholars both at home and abroad have done some research on this. But how to make a reasonable and economical ground improvement plan according to the geological survey data and the specific construction site is still uncertain. Up until now, there are few researches on well-designed ground improvement plan with short construction period. And research on calculating foundation settlement based on Excel formulas after backfilling the cushion layer is scarce. Therefore, how to choose the best ground improvement technique to improve the bearing capacity of the ground in the most economical way comes out to be the most crucial matter.This paper lists the case of a thermal power plant in Shihezi on soft ground improvements with the techniques of backfilling the cushion layer via analysis and experiments. In particular, this paper mainly focuses on the following works:1. Analysis of foundation treatment schemes. This paper introduces the conventional methods of foundation treatment and analyzes the supportive principles of each methods. It suggests the most economical and the least time-consumed one through analyzing foundation treatment schemes of several thermal power plants.2. Practical feasibility explanation of the most economical, the least time-consumed foundation treatment scheme-Backfilling&Roller Compaction(including cushion layer backfilling treatment, foundation treatment experiments, recomputation of soft underlying layers after backfilling, calculation of foundation settlement via Excel data form).3. Conclusion of all the experiments and analysis in this paper. In this part, this paper states the prospect of soft ground improvement research.
