Governments of Jiangsu province attached great importance to the safety of drinking water and it’s protection, as drinking water quality were closely related to peoples’healthy and social stabilization. In order to evaluating the organic pollution status of drinking water in whole province and accelerating the protection of water sources,we developed a specialized research named "Investigation and countermeasures to organic pollutant in centralized drinking water sources of Jiangsu province". In the research,160monitoring sites in48drinking water source areas were set and distributed in70cities and countries of Jiangsu province. These monitoring sites covered more than80%of drinking water sources in towns, typically consist of the centralized drinking water sources on the protection lists from Sanitation&Epidemic Prevetion Bureau, polluting water outlets of industrial park along river and also the outlets of sewages. This survey examined29major routine testing items and other240indexes, including20items of Heavy metals,54items of volatile organic compounds (VOC),51items of semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs),16items of Organochlorine pesticides,7items of Pyrethroid pesticides,9items of Organ ophosphorus pesticides,16items of polycyclicaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs),21items of Polychlorinated biphenyls, totalized of269items in10sorts organic pollutant.Investigation results showed that58items were detectable in240detecting items except the major routine items, and8items were over standard.These58detectable items including18items of20heavy metals in surface water sources,in which9detecting items were listed in the129kinds of precedence-controlled pollutants of American EPA or68kinds of precedence-controlled pollutants in China.Analysing about the54items of targeting VOC showed some kinds could be detected from ten water sources.11from the51items of SVOC and14items from16items of PAHs were detectable respectively.69kinds of pesticides such as Organophosphorus pesticides, Pyrethroid pesticides, Organochlorine pesticides and Polychlorinated biphenyls were undetected in all water sources. From the monitoring results.the detectable rate to Heavy metals,VOC and PAHs in water from Taihu Basin were higher than that from the Yangtze River and Huaihe River’s source of drinking water. It revealed Taihu Basin was polluted by organic pollutants in a relatively high level. On the other hand, the quality of underground water is better than surface water in general.Analysed according to the regional distribution of the water sources, southern and middle area of Jiangsu province were polluted heavier than northen area, because most drinking water sources in northen area distributed in first-grade or second grade protecting zones where had no pollution sources nor River-entering Outfall, and there are more industry pollutions and Agricultural Non-point Source Pollution in around regions. To strengthen the prevention and control of organic pollution,we should first improve legislation for water protection, make the responsibility on protection clearly, and develop a consummate emergency disposal and response system. Secondly, routine monitoring should be further improved and automatic measurement technique should be developed in order to strengthen the quality monitoring.Based on these works, emergency detectings are important and should be performed timely.Thirdly,we should strengthen the collection works of basic data at normal, establish the expert bank of emergency monitoring and methods bank of water quality analysising&testing. These countermeasures will be helpful to settle pollution accidents timely and correctly and insure the safety of drinking water sources.
