Hydrodynamic journal bearing is a most widely used mechanical part with hydrodynamic lubrication in various kinds of mechanical devices. The working condition of hydrodynamic journal bearing is significant to the working efficiency, reliability and durability of the mechanical device. The optimization design of hydrodynamic journal bearing is the hot research field in modern mechanical design, and the related research has been in constant. Currently, the optimal design of bearing is generally aimed at a kind of basic type of bearing at the special working condition and constraints. It is very necessary to establish the systemic optimization software of journal bearing, which can be directly applied to the optimal design for different types of bearings under different working conditions and constraints.In this paper, based on the research project "Research and development on the optimization design of hydrodynamic journal bearing" funded by China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, the performance database software of hydrodynamic journal bearing and the optimized design software of hydrodynamic journal bearings were studied. The main work of the paper is as follows.(1) The lubrication of circle bearing for different structure size was analyzed. The analysis model was established, the lubrication performances of hydrodynamic journal bearing at each design point in the design space were calculated, and the data files of lubrication performance of circular bearing were established.(2) Used MATLAB/GUI to compile the performance database software of hydrodynamic journal bearing. The database software can be used to input data, modify data and display data for the performance database of hydrodynamic journal bearing. The software was verified, and the results show that the all function modules of software can met the required function.(3) Established the mathematical model of optimization design of hydrodynamic journal bearing, chose the optimization method and designed the optimization process.(4) Used MATLAB/GUI to compile the optimization design software of hydrodynamic journal bearing.12different types of the objective function of hydrodynamic journal bearing can be optimized by this optimization design software. Under various conditions, the software can run normally and the optimal results are obtained, and by which the reliability of software was verified.(5) Used the particle swarm algorithm and simulated annealing algorithm to optimize the circle bearing. The results show that the optimization results of the two intelligent algorithms are good consistent in the same objective function and constraint condition.(6) The optimization results of the software were compared with the interpolation calculation results of the corresponding database of circle bearing. The results show that the accuracy of processing method of all performance data used in the optimization design software of hydrodynamic journal bearing is very high.(7) The effect of the different parameters selection of PSO on the optimization design of hydrodynamic journal bearing was studied. The results show that for the optimization design of different constraint conditions and objective function, the performance of the algorithm can be improved and the calculation time can be reduced by using PSO algorithm with different parameters.
