Product design has undergone several major changes since the outbreak of the first industrial revolution in the United Kingdom, from the British Arts and Crafts movement to the French decorative movement to the later German Bauhaus design, and finally to the modernism which was first used in United States after World War Ⅱ. Every major change is generated by the introduction of new ideas and new technologies. Now it is the time for product design been introduced new design ideas. Fractal is a new fields which born in1970’s get a great deal of development especially by the introduction of computer science. Now Fractal has been a great deal of applications in various disciplines. Chaotic fractal concept applied to product design which has achieved some results. The fractal and product design marriage is bound to play a role in promoting the development of the product design. To study the use of fractal concept in product design from two aspects in this article:the first, the use of self-similar of fractal structure characteristics in product design; the second, the use of fractal graphics which as decorative pattern in product design, the use of fractal graphics in product design applications can be divided into two cases, one is based on the fractal graphics design matching products another case is based on looking for a match with the products fractal graphics. The results of this research are as follows:(1) To Analyze the aesthetic characteristics of fractal graphics, applying fractal graphics in product design as decorative patterns to design a morphology which is similar to the dancers gesture.(2) Compare the similarities and differences between the fractal patterns and traditional pattern, find advantages of application of fractal patterns in product design.(3) Use fractal self-similarity, especially the structural characteristics of the Sierpinski triangle to design a storage box with a self-similar structure that is structurally similar to the Sierpinski triangle.(4) Use the Autodesk Alias rhino and photoshop and other three-dimensional and two-dimensional design software based on the basic concepts of fractal to design products which have practical function and structure similar to the2-dimensional Sierpinski triangle. Create products model through Rapid Prototyping Technology.
