Research centered on developing creative and utility personal vehicles which’s efficiency can be maximized through Mobility-on-Demand system (Vehicle sharing platform). Work initially researched about both severe situations of current urban transportation and required new features of future vehicles, in order to illustrate the necessity of transportation diversity and efficient allocation of resources. Through support of Changing places group from MIT Media Lab, a multidisciplinary team of research students collaborated to produce urban hybrid vehicle, PEV (Persuasive electric vehicle). The models were designed through parametric computer aided design program, and rapidly prototyped through the use of computer numerical control (CNC) machine and Laser cutting machine. Further studies of the designs lead to the development of a concept vehicle,"Smart Wheel"-a convenient, efficient, and chic addition to public and private transportation in the city. The Smart Wheel is a battery-powered vehicle base on two wheeled self-balancing system which enable it to occupy two third less spaces comparing with normal vehicle. The mockup of Smart Wheel which assembled by CNC-milled plywood parts could achieve most of our original concept.
