In the1980s, The glass skin-facades had been found in China, the representative buildings are Beijing Great Wall Hotel and Shanghai Union buildings. Because of elegant and attractive, It is quickly fashioned in construction industry. However, In recently, At the trend of advocating low carbon, building energy conservation and environmental protection, the use of glass skin-facades were limited due to many factors. The emergence of the double-skin facade and its application in China is a measure of alleviating the present contradiction. This paper is to study factors that affect double-skin facades system in the severe cold region, and analyze the energy consumption of using the double skin facade building based on the study results. Combining with the results of other researchers, this paper proposes the operation strategy of double skin facades in the severe cold area.Starting from the climate characteristics of cold region and combining with the operation principle of the double-skin facade in winter, this topic analyses the three factors which affect thermal properties of double skin facade in winter conditions:heat storage cavity spacing, gas cycle way and the building orientation. First of all, staring from the accumulation of heat on cavity spacing, and under the discussion of the different spacing the cavity, how will the difference of double skin facade’s thermal properties. The models of Double skin facade with200mm,400mm and600mm respectively were found in the GAMBIT and simulated in the Fluent.From that we get the relations between the cavity space and the double skin facade’s thermal properties. Second, we begin to discuss gas cycle way on the influence of the double skin facade. Generally we use none circulation of the double skin facade in winter conditions, but the simulation found that the double skin facade with gas cycle will get a more favorable indoor environment in winter day. Along with the increasing of air circulation, this phenomenon became apparent. Yet in the night, the closed double skin facade is more helpful to maintain the indoor temperature. At last, this paper analyses the building towards and the outer structure on the influence of double skin facade from the perspective of building energy consumption.We use the method of heat transfer to establish the heat transfer coefficient calculation method of the double skin facade without no cycle mode in winter, and then use the DEST simulation software to do some related simulation analysis for the DEST model built by the double skin facade, ordinary insulating glass facade and the traditional37wall in a different building toward respectively. On the basis of simulation results, the comparison shows the relationship between building toward and building energy consumption when we use the double skin glass curtain wall.Finally, Combining with the experimental simulation results and research results of the summer double skin facades in cold region, this paper suggestion some operation modes of Double skin facades for the severe cold areas and apply the choice of double skin facades material and artificial control method for design, Author expects these measures to adapt the climate change of cold region in order to reach the purpose of energy-saving building.
