| In consideration of its light weight, high strength, non-corrosive and non-magnetic,FRP(fiber reinforced polymer) bars have been more and more popular among scholarsat home and abroad. While the shortcoming of its low elasticity modulus and its linearelastic constitutive relation constrains its wide use in constructions. Based onsummaries of other scholars’ studies, a new reinforcement method is raised in thisarticle—hybrid FRP bars in component, studies aiming at the new method aredemonstrated here:1. The two kind of FRP bars are mixed by a certain proportion n and the damage ofcomponent is designed as an extra-reinforcement failure mode. Because of the differentultimate strains of the two bars, load-deformation curve will display a tri-linear modethrough the secondary fracture of bars, in other word, this will make componentrepresents a feature of "pseudo ductility" which can give an early-warning of the finaldamage. What’s more, the twist pot of stiffness can still play as a monitoring pot indesign of the component.2. Ratio of the two bars and the bearing capacity of large eccentric compressioncolumn formula are deduced. And two sets of specimens for experiments are designedbased on the formula. After the experiments, different features–bearing capacity, deformability and energy-dissipating capacity-of the two specimens are contrasted. Finally it is found that specimen designed by the new method does present a twist ofstiffness which make the component display a “pseudo-ductility†and the features aboveall have been improved to varying degrees.3. Associated with the area of both CFRP bars and GFRP bars, the parameter ncan not be discussed alone, so11sets of simulation examples are simulated by the finiteelement software ABAQUS to study how the area of FRP bars influence theperformances of specimen. And the result shows that, in the section design, if thebearing capacity plays a leading role, the first choice is to increase area of CFRP bars, while if the leading role is the deformation of elements, then area of the GFRP bars isthe first consideration factor. |
