Preliminary Research On Construction Design Managemennt Based On BIM

As an important part of the construction project, the quality of the design has anenormous impact on investment, progress and quality of the construction project. Inorder to effectively improve the overall quality of construction projects in China, andthe construction design technology and management level, it is necessary to combinetechnology informatization and management informatization in construction industry.Therefore, BIM was introduced to China in recent years, and was listed as one of theoverall development objectives in the "Twelfth Five Year " plan in constructionindustryinformatization.By studying the BIM application status of the BIM projects included ShanghaiTower project which the author personally participated in, and combining with "theChina (Shanghai) BIM application investigation2011",the author found, currently, theapplication of BIM in the design phase of construction projects in China are mainlyconcentrated in the BIM software applications. In order to create more value of BIM inconstruction project, and enhance China’s construction project management level,itshould also focus on extension of BIM applications to the construction designmanagement and even construction project lifecycle management.This thesis carries on preliminary research on construction design managementbased on BIM. The thesis mainly employs literature research method, investigationmethod and induction research method, analyzes the nature of knowledge managementand project management in construction design management so is the BIM suitability inthis field. It describes the status of China’s current BIM market and the application ofBIM in construction design phase. Problems and the factors in the design phase areanalyzed, such as inadequate means of design and analyze, corporate design standards’imperfection, cooperative design weakness, data security needs to be improved, and theprogress of the design activities and cost management needs to be strengthened. Finally,it carries out some BIM-based measures which will help promote construction designmanagement level from various aspects, such as design and analysis means, designstandards, data security, cooperative design, BIM design team building, BIM designprocess optimization, construction design project management and suitable construction project procurement/delivery mode for BIM business.
