Through the research on the remaining site of Yuan Ming Yuan,the originalscenes of this huge royal garden can be learned and studied in detail, as well as theproblems of the restoration of landform, water system and plants. Next, based on fieldinvestigation, the situation of landform, water system and plants is divided into threelevels. According to experience in protection of ruins park and ideas of traditionalgarden design, a staged approach is used to restore the landform, water system andplants. Spring at Wuling is taken for example, which is one of forty-sence of YuanMing Yuan. With its rich connotations, Spring at Wuling is of great value to study. Byanalyzing intention and conception of Spring at Wuling, the paper has explored itsdesign and humanistic theory, also made a targeted plan, which has significantenlightenment for present landscape and the protection of the old site of Yuan MingYuan.In the process, theory and practice are combined from beginning to end. Thetheoretical basis is historical collections and traditional garden design. The practicebasis is the Special Planning of Yuan Ming Yuan Site and an experimental project onSpring at Wuling. A scientific working process is formed which is document study,field investigation, archaeological excavation, preliminary project, expert review,completion project, expert argumentation and final project. Based on open theoperating mode, the study could be adjusted and improved in time to guarantee theauthenticity and feasibility of the results.
