Automatic Mechanical Transmission (AMT) is formed by combining automaticshift control system with the traditional fixed Mechanical Transmission (MT). It hasgreat potential market due to its high transfer efficiency、low cost and easiness tomanufacture. As a core-module in the AMT, the working quality and reliability of theautomatic clutch is directly related to the performance of the AMT. One of theimportant factors that affect the working quality of the automatic clutch is the startingprocess of the car and how to minimize the jerk and friction work as far as possible instarting process is the difficult problem which needs to be solved. The reliability of theautomatic clutch is the premise of the AMT vehicle safety driving and any smallproblems will affect the normal running of the vehicle. In order to ensure the workingquality and reliability of the automatic clutch, the study of the automatic clutch controlin starting process and the fault diagnosis is very significant.The automatic clutch starting control concerns with the process of the clutchengaging when the AMT vehicle started. The ideal value of the engaging speed of theclutch can effectively balance two evaluation indexes in starting process, which are thejerk and friction work. Aim at improving the performance of the starting process bymaking engaging speed close to ideal value in the process of the clutch engaging, thedouble-level control strategy was adopted to control the engagement process of theclutch based on the simplified model for automatic clutch. In first level, a fuzzycontrol strategy which can reflect the drivers’ starting intention sufficiently was putforward. In second level, the training mechanism of T-S fuzzy neural network wasapplied to optimize parameters of the controller and the better controller is derived.Based on the fuzzy controller and the fuzzy neural network controller, a simulationmodel of vehicle in starting process was set up. The simulation results indicate that theimproved control method can effectively reduce the friction work and jerk, andachieves good control results in comparison with the traditional fuzzy control strategy.The fault detection concerns with the problem of the automatic clutch system with non-linear characteristics when the system exists external interference. A robustfault detection filter is then designed to detect abrupt and incipient fault of the actuatorof the automatic clutch system. A sufficient condition is also derived in terms of linearmatrix inequality (LMI), which makes the systems asymptotically stable and satisfiesthe robust H_∞performance. In addition, the scheme of fault detection is obtained byusing the mean squares of the residual. Finally, the simulation results on the actuatorof the automatic clutch system of AMT vehicle show the effectiveness and thefeasibility of the proposed approach.
