The kiln tail structure of cement plants is similar to high-rise flexible structures inmechanical performance. Currently there is no industrial standard or code responsiblefor the design of this kind of structure in China. Generally the codes for high-rise civilstructure are referenced. However, there are lots of differences in seismic performancebetween kiln tail structure and high-rise structures due to itself characteristics. Atpresent only a few researches related to kiln tail structure in high seismic intensityareas are reported and the study in this field is still quite insufficient. This paper takesa concrete-filled steel tube frame which works as kiln tail structure of a4500t/dnew-style dry process cement production line located in a9degree seismicfortification area as a research object.Firstly, the general situation, the structure style, load cases and boundaryconditions are briefly introduced. Then the stress and displacement of member of thestructure are analyzed by ANSYS. The result shows that stress and displacement meetthe relevant requirements in code.Secondly, the reaction of the structure under rare earthquake is analyzed based onthe elasto-plastic time history analysis method with the help of the explicit dynamicanalysis software LS-DYNA. The analyses above accounted for geometric andmaterial nonlinearities, failure of elements. To deeply figure out the seismic resistantability of the structure, the impacts of vertical earthquake action and column baseform to the reaction of the structure are discussed, and finally based on the earthquakeresponse, the structural system is optimized. The analytical results show that thestructure system has good seismic behavior. The influence of the vertical earthquakeaction to the structure cannot be neglected. Compare to the fixed column base, thepinned column base enhances the ability of the lateral displacement of the structureand has a greater influence on the substructure than the superstructure.Finally, with the numerical simulation method, the seismic performances of thebeam-column joints of the structure are studied, and the study mainly focuses on thebearing capacity under monotonic loading, the ductility under low cyclic loading andthe energy dissipation ability of the joints. Through the analyses the followingconclusion could be safely concluded, enforced loop joint of concrete filledsteel-tubular column shows typical characteristic of joint of "strong column and weakbeam", and the joint has good ability of hysteretic energy.
