Vehicle suspension is the assembly which connects vehicle body and axle (or wheels). Itplays an extremely important role in riding comfort. The semi-active suspension canadjust the suspension stiffness or damping with road condition varying, so it can improvethe suspension performance largely, and has become a research focus in the automotiveindustry. Variable shock absorber as actuators and the controller in the control strategy arethe core issue of semi-active suspension and were studied and discussed in this paper. Asolenoid controllable damping shock absorber with two dimension and mathematicalmodel is designed as actuator. Using matlab/simscape simulation module simulates andanalyses the variable shock absorber. The model can well predict the performance ofvariable shock absorber, and become the basis for processing samples and products. Onthe base of two-freedom bilinear mathematical model of simi-active suspension, aself-tuning controller is designed and used in simulation of simi-active suspension. Theresults of simulation and analysis show that the self-tuning controller can improve ridecomfort and handling stability. The theory and simulation indicate that the variable shockabsorber model designed in this paper is reasonable, the self-tuning controller is effectiveand efficient, the follow-up work such as product processing and vehicle test can becarried on.
