Recent years, catalytic cracking fractionation columns were blocked repeatedly in Shengli Refinery of Qilu PetroChemical Corporation. Operation on the tower was out of control. The main reason is that there is too much inorganic chlorine in the VDU S#1 oil. Secondly, chlorine in the oil could form HCl and corrode equipment seriously. The enterprise cares about this problem early. Most of the inorganic chlorine is dissolved in the micro water which is dispersed in the oil. In this dissertation the water in the oil was separated by using coalescer for dechlorination. This dissertation also investigated the affecting factors, decided the optimum operating conditions and built a forecasted model. Third, it investigated the highest Chlorine in the washing water and found out the relationship between the content and dechlorination effect. So, according to the demands, the refineries could control the circling water and make good use of the water resource.This method could solve the emulsion problem during the washing desalination and decrease the Chlorine in the oil. Water in the treated oil was just under 0.3%. Without the corrosion and block problems, the unit could run for a long time normally. In addition, because of easy operation, large handling ability, low in pressure drop, running for a long time, using widely, small space and low investment cost, coalescer would get a widely foreground.
