Soil is an important natural resource for human survivaland ecology. With therecent development of industrial progress and agriculture, urban pollution intensifiesmaking increasingly serious soil heavy metal pollution.Soil heavy metal elementinvestigation in metal mining area provides a tools for geochemical anomalyevaluation of ore-forming elements and prospecting and it is also foundation for metalheavy pollution investigation in arable soil and restoration.By studying therelationship between spectral feature and heavy metal content, the regressionequations for the field spectral features and metal element concentrations aredetermined to estimate the heavy metal element contents. The following conclusions:Determine the spectral feature. Because of the low levels of heavy metals in thesoil, the soil is difficult to form the corresponding spectral characteristics of the band.Based on adsorption mechanism of hydroxyl groups in the soil and free positive ions, the field spectral data are processed and the spectral features concentrating on500nm,770nm,1340nm, and2100nm-2300nm are extracted. The spectral features areabsorption depths, absorption area, reflectance ratio, and symmetry degree.Application of the prediction model. Use of satellite remote sensing data, theheavy metal contents, including Cu, Pb, Cd, and Zn, are retrieved successfully fromthe prediction models. The testing mining area in Ping-quan, there exists a high-valueanomaly zone in the northeastern direction of mining area, which provides the basisfor further prospecting. And the Pb and Cd contents in northwestern farmland in themining area deserve the attention for farming environment protection.Besides, theheavy metal element content in mountain and forest region is lower than it in themiddle area and the content has a trend of rise as the river direction. The farmlanddeserves governance. Besides, there exists a high-value anomaly zone in the middleand lower reaches, which provides the basis for further prospecting.
