In this paper, formaldehyde and toluene was used as a target the pollutant to makeexperience in catalyzing hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) oxidation of volatile organiccontaminant (VOCs) in homemade photocatalytic oxidation reaction device made byourselves. Nano-magnetite and nano-hematite with a particle size of0.84~3.35mmwere each prepared by reduction of goethite at300℃in hydrogen and air. Anheterogeneous oxidation reactor filled with the prepared magnetite, hematite or goethitewas connected with a reactor used to formaldehyde. The effect of amount of H2O2,initial concentration of formaldehyde, flow rate of carrier gas on the formaldehyderemoval was investigated in four kinds of reaction system, namely H2O2,H2O2-ultraviolet (UV), iron oxide-H2O2, and iron oxide-H2O2-UV. The mechanism ofFenton photocatalytic oxidation of formaldehyde was evaluated by the combinedapplication of a mass spectrometer total carbon analyser.The results show thatformaldehyde removal rate in the Fenton photocatalytic oxidation can reach98%. Thestable result can be obtained in different gas velocity effects of different concentrationof formaldehyde. It shows that nano-iron oxide as catalyst in the photocatalyticoxidation reaction play an important role in removing of formaldehyde and toluene gas,and it is a kind of catalyst with high efficiency and economy. Formaldehyde and toluenegas to mineralization in the homemade reaction device is decomposed into CO2andH2O, rather than intermediate. Photocatalytic oxidation process is a kind of organicwaste gas purification technology with low cost.
