Explosive melt casting process is a method that the explosive is melted and poured intoprojectile, is cooling a solid explosive column, which is a complicated thermomechanicalprocess that explosive become from liquid to solid. Defects such as shrinkage porosity andcracks is easy to produce in this process, such defects would directly affect the quality andperformance of explosive charge. As the traditional method of design process is usually byexperience, mainly through trial and destructive tests to detect the quality of explosive charge,this results that trial period is long, cost is high, efficiency is low. Therefore, this paper inorder to improve the quality of the explosive charge, study effect of melt casting process onthe quality of the explosive charge by numerical simulation methods.On the basis of melt casting process establish a numerical simulation model of unsteadyNewtonian flow pouring and solidification process, two processes of the riser preheat and heatwere simulated. Simulation results show that the technology of preheating and insulation risercould extend feeding time, reduce shrinkage porosity.For four key process parameters of pouring temperature, speed, explosive viscosity andthe ambient temperature, the pouring and solidification process were simulated by usingorthogonal experiment method. Analysis results, the shrinkage porosity is sensitive to thepouring temperature and explosive viscosity, the stress is sensitive to the pouring temperatureand ambient temperature, so the explosive charge defects can be reduced by reasonable chargematching process parameters in process design.Based on the above, pressure filling process was simulated. After analysing thetemperature variation of explosive, pressure solidification could increase explosives meltingpoint, shorten cooling time, improve the quality of charge. When combining with the preheating and insulation riser, could basically eliminate shrinkage porosity defects.The above results can provide a reference for melt casting process design, numericalsimulation method can be used to optimize the design process of explosive melt castingprocess.
