In recent years, with the rapid socioeconomic progress, the problem of land pollutionis becoming more and more serious.Heavy metal contaminated soil had become aserious environmental geotechnical problem. In view of the present insufficiency in theengineering properties and mutation mechanism aspect of heavy metal contaminatedsoil,on the basis of a lot of advantages of resistivity method, this article selectedPb2+,Zn2+,Cr3+and clay in Hefei region as the research object,by soil tests, micromeasurement and analysis methods, resistivity testing technique, and so forth, focused onengineering properties of heavy metal contaminated soil, revealed the influencingmechanisms and established the validity appraising method for engineering propertiesof heavy metal contaminated soil based on the resistivity. The main research contents are given as follows:1) Compared and analyzed the composition and microstructure characteristics ofheavy metal contaminated soil,it was shown that the clay content, cation exchangecapacity decreased but the dissolved salt content increased with the increase of heavymetal concentration, particle aggregation and macrospores occurred in contaminatedsoil.2) Compared and analyzed the indexes of physical mechanical property of heavymetal contaminated soil,it was shown that the liquid limit, plastic limit and plastic indexdecreased but the specific weight of soil particle increased with the increase of heavymetal concentration, heavy metal ions make the engineering properties of soilworsen. The variation of the composition and microstructure of contaminated soil are themain factors.3) Compared and analyzed the electrical parameters, such as the average structurefactor, the anisotropic electrical index and the average shape factor. Based on thecorrelation of the resistivity and physico-mechanical properties of contaminated soil, amethod for evaluating engineering properties of heavy metal contaminated soil wasdiscussed based on the resistivity. The testing showed that the resistivity method was asimple and effective assessment method in the engineering properties of heavy metalcontaminated soil.
