The synthetic technology and application in waterproof base paper of highperformance low cost polyamide polyamine epichlorohydrin (PAE) wet strength agentwas studied. The agent has a good influence on wet strength of paper, and it is a goodkind of wet strength agent.Firstly, the intermediate of cationic poly acyl (PPC) was prepared by thecopolymerization of adipic acid and diethylenetriamine; then adding the modifier; thewet strength agent of polyamide polyamine epichlorohydrin (PAE) was prepared bycross-linking reaction with epichlorohydrin.The molar ratio of adipic acid to diethlenetriamine and the reaction temperatureon the influence of intermediates was discussed; the dosage of epichlorohydrin,reaction temperature, reaction time on the effect of wet strength agent resin was alsostudied. The suitable conditions to synthesize the agent were: the molar ratio of adipicacid to diethylenetriamine was1:0.5, the amidation reaction temperature was180℃and reaction time was120min. The optimum conditions after adding modifying agentwere: the reaction temperature is90℃, the modification reaction time for40min, thedosage of modifier is30%; the cross-linking reaction temperature with epichlorohydrinis60℃.The synthesis conditions of the PAE resin on the effects of the wet strength wassystematically studied; the application conditions such as the types of pulp, degree ofpulp beating and pH of pulp were also discussed. The results show that the optimumcondition for the application of PAE resins was: the dosage of PAE was2%, neutralglue dosage was1.2%, pulp beating degree was43oSR and pH of pulp system was8.0.The synthesized PAE resin was applied in the actual production of waterproofbase paper. In production, many factors such as the pulp, the ratio, the control ofbeating, the use of other chemical materials, parameters of paper machine wereadjusted to adapt to the production of paper machine, and improve the quality ofwaterproof base paper to ensure the production of qualified products. The optimumapplication condition of PAE resin on production process of waterproof base paper was:using imported Canadian maple wood pulp and coniferous wood from United States,the proportion was40:60; beating degree was40-42oSR, neutral glue dosage was1.8%, the speed of paper machine was stability at350m/min.
