Ultrasonic machining technology (USM) plays an important role in the field of non-traditional machining, which solved a lot of non-traditional machining problems. Ultrasonic vibration system is the core of the power ultrasonic machine equipments, whose research methods mainly include analytical method、equivalent circuit method and finite element method etc, modeling and simulation approaches for the ultrasonic vibration system with software is uncommon. The technology of computer simulation is used to analysis the physical model dynamically, while input the simulation parameters, there will be a corresponding operation result. Therefore, the simulation study of ultrasonic vibration system is based on the theoretical analysis, which can predict the performance of the system during the design phase, and realize the structural optimizing.Explain the working principle of the rotary ultrasonic machining and the structure of the ultrasonic vibration system, and then introduce the design theory of modeling and simulation approaches for ultrasonic vibration system. Deduce the variable cross-section thin rod’s vibration equation with analytical method while the ultrasonic vibration system is doing one-dimensional longitudinal vibration, get the function of vibration velocity and stress, as well as the parameter values of the four-terminal network transmission matrix, and then analyze the force of transverse plane in ultrasonic vibration system under no-load cases, aiming at establishing the theoretical foundation for the ensuing chapters.This paper focuses on the modeling and simulation of the ultrasonic vibration system with MATLAB/Simulink. The ultrasonic vibration system can be abstracted as a dynamic model according to Newton’s law in this article, which is described with mass, stiffness and damping, then using the MATLAB/Simulink software to create the state-space model, realize the numerical simulation of the ultrasonic vibration system. In order to verify the veracity of simulation with MATLAB, modal analysis and harmonic response analysis by the finite element analysis software ANSYS are necessary.Performance parameters in ultrasonic vibration system, such as mass, stiffness and damping, their change in value will influence the amplitude of the tool tip. Modify the input parameters’value in the module of MATLAB/Simulink, it will gain the parameter characteristics. Install the ultrasonic vibration system on "Hatter xk7132"CNC milling machine, then study the driving power、generator’s output frequency and the load on the effect of the amplitude by experiment. Contrastive analysis the experimental results and the MATLAB/Simulink results, it proved that MATLAB simulation is feasible.
