Underwear Construction Comfort Research Based On Male Physical Characteristic

Male underwear is kind of snugly fitting and stretchable clothing, which needs goodclothing structure and clothing comfort. Research on Body Shape is the basis of clothingstructure and clothing comfort. The lower part of male body is complicated because ofmale special feature. Through the analysis of male special feature and other body shapecharacteristic indexes, the lower part of male body was classified. With the bodyclassification, the prototypes of underwear were made. The effect of male special featurewas analyzed, and the clothing-fitness of male underwear was improved.The main contents of this paper include two parts: one is the research on the segmentof male lower-body-shape; two is the prototypes of different body-shape.This paper analyzes the structure of front crotch, and it is the first to mention the X,which was used to represent the fullness of male special feature. Setting up reasonablebody measurement experiment, and body-shape-related data and23variables related to thebody shape of male were analyzed. The top five factors with Characteristic value greaterthan1and Accumulated85.640%were considered as characteristic index of male lowerbody. Based on the characterization of characteristic index, waist-buttock, waist height, hipthickness and X were chosen for characteristic factor of body shape. Waist-buttock, waist-to-hip ratio and X were finally chosen for distinguishing indexes for classifying bodyshape.Analyzing characteristic factors of male lower body shape with K-MEANS of fuzzycluster analysis.8initial cluster centers were given, and WH-, WH and X were classified into8cluster. Shape factors of the different cluster were analyzed and8different lowerbody shapes were gotten finally based on WH-, WHand X.The corresponding parts of underwear structure were analysed. Total length of frontand back crotch, crotch depth and other control parts were analyzed through regressionanalysis. The regression equations of total length of front and back crotch, crotch depth andother control parts with different body shape could be established. Based on nationalstandard of underwear, underwear structures were adjusted topically, and the prototypes ofunderwear were established finally.Objective and subjective evaluation tests were designed, and some subjective andobjective contrast tests, based on the same material and structure, were carried out.Through the experiments, bound feeling was the main influence factor of underwearwearing comfort, and was renamed as Compression Sensibility Factor (CSF). With somesubjective and objective evaluation tests of CSF carrying out, the result showed that theimproved structure was better than structure of national standard. The improved structurewas considered to be with a good popularization. The result provides the basis for theindividualized underwear structure and the establishing of new prototype of underwear. Itestablishes the academic base for the research on lower body shape based on male specialfeature.
