Pneumatic conveying means transforming the solid particles with pressured gas. It originated from France in19th and went through100years development, it has became quite popular in rubber, chemical, electric, foodstuff, metallurgy, building material, ship unloading, medicine industries. With the technology developing, more and more attention is paying to the environmental protection and pollution prevention. And what important is pneumatic conveying is one of the most environment-friendly conveying equipment. Recently, with the dense phase conveying developing, it is much better than dilute phase conveying in many aspects such as energy consumption, productivity and reliability. Many technologies used in dense phase conveying also get big chance to develop, like feeding device, for example rotary feeder, venturi feeder, screw feeder and blow tank. Different feeder provides different conveying effect.This paper mainly researches on rotary feeder conveying. In real industry, this kind of feeding device is rarely used in dense phase conveying and there is no more useful experience. A few western companies who master this technology handle it as a secret, especially the high pressure type rotary feeder which can work under0.3MPa is very expensive, the price is more than100thousands one set. So until now Chinese maker can’t product a reliable high pressure type rotary feeder, it also restricts the development of dense phase rotary feeder pneumatic conveying in china. So doing this research not only can fill the gaps for dense phase rotary feeder conveying, but also can make huge benefit for enterprise.This paper’s purport is to design a reliable dense phase rotary feeder pneumatic conveying system for carbon black. As a necessary to build a system, this paper firstly introduces the mechanism of the pneumatic conveying, discussing the different states of flow for material conveying in the pipeline, then introducing the three different kinds of conveying types:dilute phase, dense phase and slug flow conveying. Among them the slug flow conveying is be emphasized.Secondly, this paper forecasts the state of flow for4kinds of carbon by doing the material’s flow characteristic experiment.Third, this paper summarizes the theoretical research achievement from other researcher and uses these theories to calculate some system design parameters in a dense phase pneumatic conveying system, like pressure drop and air speed at the end of pipeline.Fourth, this paper introduces the important devices used in pneumatic conveying system, like air mover and its accessories, silo, dust filter, rotary feeder. Discussing the key points in rotary feeder’s application is be emphasized then making a speed regulation plan for a rotary feeder conveying system.Fifth, to design an automatic control system for a rotary feeder conveying system, the maximum automation is this control system’s target.Finally, doing a conveying experiment for4different kinds of carbon black by using a new dense phase rotary feeder conveying system, during the conveying process, using the previous rotary feeder’s speed regulation plan to verify the rotary feeder can regulate the throughput by changing the speed. Then, by doing a breakage rate experiment to verify the rotary feeder can reduce the breakage rate efficiently.All above, it verifies the dense phase rotary feeder pneumatic conveying system can work successfully.
