Up to now, many existing drugs are limited to their defects such as bad absorption, fast metabolism, short action time and side effects, et al. Thus, developing drug sustained-release carrier becomes a new way to overcome deficiency. Based on the existing literatures, xyloglucan has been used as material for the study of drug sustained-release carrier.Xyloglucan, widespread in natural plants, is a kind of highly substituted, water-soluble, non-toxic, edible, easily available biodegradable polysaccharide. Thermo-sensitive xyloglucan hydrogel with three-dimensional networks was formed in2wt.%solution reacting by β-galactosidase. Its sol-gel transition temperature is about35.77℃, which is just a bit lower than the human body temperature. And the experiments of drug release in vitro and in vivo suggest that xyloglucan hydrogel could release drug sustainly and prolong the action time. It is suitable for drug carrier in Drug Delivery System (DDS).Moreover, compared to starch film, the mechanical properties of starch film are obviously improved by adding xyloglucan. In the process, glycerol is used as plasticizer for overcoming the brittle fracture. So the improved starch film could release drug efficiently as drug sustained-release carrier.Nanostructured lipid carriers, made of xyloglucan, have smaller size than other drug sustained-release carriers. They are convenient for intravenous injection or other administration routes.According to the study on physical-chemical properties and drug release behaviors, xyloglucan hydrogel, improved starch film and nanostructured lipid carrier could be used as drug carriers in DDS.
