As a core-block of snubbing operation, the blanking plug can not only effectively maintain the stratum energy in the snubbing operation but also greatly relieve environmental pressures. Currently, although we has made some progress in the research on blanking plugs, we still have difficulty in balancing the pressure distribution and the water distribution. Under this circumstance, in this paper, numerical simulation research on the existing blanking plug models is carried out, and on the basis of its structure optimization, a new type of structural model is proposed and field tests are done to verify the working of numerical simulation. And through the combination of numerical simulation and field tests, the research on the structure optimization of blanking plugs is finally completed. In the numerical simulation section, the FLUENT6.3software are adopted to analyze the flow that between inner tube and outer tubing plug, distribution of the pressure, temperature and flow rate caused by the blanking plug. Through the comparative analysis on simulation results of three blanking plugs, the pressure distribution and velocity distribution of the first two blanking plugs are found flawed, while the optimized blanking plugs model is uniform and axisymmetrical in both pressure distribution and velocity distribution, with the temperature having little impact on the structure. In the field test portion, three blanking plugs are respectively tested, the first two cannot be blocked effectively that the success rate just only30%and50%, because the size and structure, while the optimized one succeed in plugging. The numerical simulation result and field test result confirm each other, which shows that the optimized blanking plugs have a good performance, can fully meet the operating requirements and better adapt to the current situation of the oil field.
