Pulsed arc process, as one of the non-traditional machining technologies, is a new methodwhich is carried out by utilizing directly electirc energy and thermal energy. Since themachinability of the work-piece mateiral depends on its electrical conductivity and thermalproperty with little relevance with its mechanical property, it enables this method hecamcparticularly suitable for processing the hole parts of difficult-to-machine material. A study on thepulsed arc process of deep-hole nesting is of great significance for processing the hole-parts ofdiiffcult-to-machine mateiral and promoting the development of the mcchanical industry.Firstly, this thesis gives an introduction to the deifnition of the pulsed arc process, itsmachining principle and mcchanism. Based on the machining pirnciple of pulsed arc process andthe machining characteristic of deep-hole trepanning,the pulsed arc machining system fordeep-hole trepanning is designed. With several group of comparative expeirments, the mostsuitable electrode material for the pulsed arc process is chosen out, and through orthogonalexperiment, the effect law of electrical parameter and the optimization of the related electircalparameter are determined during the pulsed arc machining. Atfer the difficult-to-machinematerial being processed with the pulsed arc process, detection and an analysis to itsmetallographic structure and hardened layer are carried out, which comes to a conclusion that thediiffcult-to-machine material processed with the pulsed arc process produces no effect on thesubsequent machining operation. Therefore, the pulsed arc process is applicable to the machiningof deep-hole trepanning and it also gains a greater advantage on processing the hole-parts of thediiffcult-to-machine material.
