In the plastics industry, many plastic products molded by the technology of injectionmolding contain metal inserts, and the market price of the metal inserts generally account for90%of the raw materials cost of plastic products. But in the process of injection molding,many rejects are produced due to the defect such as shrink and weld mark. Therefore, how torecycle these metal inserts from the rejects is a subject that has great economic value.At present, the rejects are soaked in the chemical solvent so that the plastics and themetal inserts are separated by many companies after the plastics became soft. This recyclemethod is not only inefficient but also quite harmful for the workers’ health and environment.What’more, the plastic products are melted with heat transfer oil by some companies in orderto separate the plastics and the metal inserts. Although this method is efficient, it’s harmfulfor health and environment.At first, the principle of metal recycle is put forward originally by this article and theprinciple is heating the plastics based on infrared ray and with the help of air. What’more, theplastics and metal inserts are separated more quickly by taking advantage of centrifugal forceand air injection. Secondly, the mechanism was developed after the principle of the recyclemechanism was confirmed. The development work of the mechanism can be divided intomechanical design and design of the control system, and the design of the control system ismainly divided into the hardware design of the electrical control and control programmingand software design.After the design and the assembly of the mechanism were compeleted, the mechanismwas test so that the basic function of the mechanism proved to be workable. After that, therecycling effect and the recycling efficiency of the mechanism were tested by experiment, theeconomic benefit and the recycle cost were analyzed according to the experiment result. Theresult showed that the recycling efficiency of the mechanism was slightly lower than theheating method of the heat transfer oil. However, the recycling effect, the recycling cost andthe economic benefit of the mechanism were obviously better than the heating method of theheat transfer oil.During the process of the test and the experiment, the mechanism vibration, the waste of heat quantity and the lag of temperature control were the problems that must be solved. Atlast, the structure and the control system were optimized in order to solve these problems.
