Compared with traditional UV-curing, the technology of WaterborneSelf-initiation UV-curable has some advantages such as without photoinitiator,degradation, waterborne, environmental protection. Using Phthalic anhydride, Maleicanhydride, Ethylene glycol, Propylene glycol, Polyethylene glycol-400,2,4,6-tribromoaniline, SnCl2or AlCl3, a new oligomer which showed waterborne andself-initiation in UV curing was synthesized by melt polymerization in this paper.Owing to good properties of waterborne and self-initiation, the oligomer is less harmto environment and human health than traditional UV-curing oligomer. Also, thewaterborne oligomer is beneficial to paper recycling when it is used for varnish.Therefore it is useful to food packaging, et al.Waterborne oligomer was synthesized by adding2,4,6-tribromoaniline andcatalyst. We designed experiment to determine reaction variables. We came to knowthe optimal experiment conditions by analyzing and adjusting those variables. And theoligomer structure was tested by FTIR and1H NMR. We also made serials of differentoligomer by changing the mole rations of reactants. With cured, the coating will befurther tested about its hardness, glossiness, adhesion, flexibility. The curingproperties and degradation are analysed by environmental scanning electronmicroscope (ESEM). Also, the thermal stability and high temperature resistance areresearched by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).One-component waterborne self-initiation coating is one of the main subjects inUV curing coating research. Acrylic grafted the oligomer was prepared t o quickercured and better properties. The results obtained from coating film determinationshowed that cured time of the coating was decreased obviously, excellent properties offlexibility, hardness and glossiness were deserved. It was found that acrylic grafted theoligomer was quick-cured and degraded, thermal stability and high temperatureresistance observed by DSC and ESEM.Waterborne self-initiation UV-curable coating was not applied in market withoutadvanced technology. It is believed that it will preferred waterborne self-initiationUV-curable coating to the traditional UV-curable coating in the future withtechnological developing.
