The development of modern steel rolling is toward high-precision and intelligent direction. As the users show increasingly high demand for the plate proifle, dimensional accuracy andcomprehensive properties, in the situation of the surplus of steel production capacity rising, thecompetition between steel plants becomes more intense, this is bound to cause urgent needs inresearching better product precision theory and rolling process. This paper focuses on the Width Control of3000mm plate mill of WISCO, establishs Rigidplastic ifnite element model during rough rolling process by the use of the ABAQUS ifniteelement software, then simulates the width reduction of rolled piece under different situations, and last analyzes and summarizes the impact of different factors on the width reduction.According to the typical plate rolling process, then establishes three ifnite element models tosimulate the regularity in edging-slab, slab-edging-slab in the ifrst rough rolling process,slab-edging-slab in the second rough rolling process. As the results shows that: after using short stroke control, the extent of width reduction hasbecome more and more improved.By contrast the inlfuence of the sheet thickness, width andmatching rationally the edge reduction for the width reduction: while the sheet width gets largeror the matching rationally the edge reduction gets larger, the extent of width reduction getlarger. The impact of sheet thcikness on width reduction is not signiifcant. Finally it gives a set of short stroke of the vertical roll control parameters to the actualproduction for reference.
