With the continuous development of modern technology, online monitoring of the qualityof welding technology that based on sound, light, electricity and other important informationin welding process has made considerable progress.Nowadays,welding quality monitoringtechnology based on the advanced optical sensors, vision sensors and ultrasonic sensingtechnology aim at the singles of light and electricity has became mature, but the study basedon arc sound signal only for the initial stage. This paper is based on arc sound signal weldingquality online acquisition and analysis.As the object of the gas tungsten arc welding (TIG welding) arc sound signal is researchedin the paper. With the advantage of welding process stability, the voice of TIG welding willaltered obviously just at the time of the arc-striking and arc-quenching stage and in weldingdefects. Rich information of welding is included by the TIG welding arc sound signal, the oneas one of concomitant of the welding process, Welding automation can be controlledthroughout the monitoring of the hole welding process as well as arc-striking andarc-quenching stage or the characteristics of the acoustic signal.Combination of hardware and software will be used to research the three steps, theacquisition, processing and analysis the arc sound. Sound acquisition system is composed ofpick-up and preamplifier circuit; The processing section build up by a second-order band-passfilter circuit and analog-to-digital conversion system; analysis portion of the sound by NILABVIEW language acoustic signals in time domain and frequency domain analysis.Controlled by the PIC18F4520analog-to-digital conversion system can be pass the singlethrough the pickup system collecting and amplifying and filtering the analog signals intodigital signals to the LabVIEW2012for digital analysis. In This subject, LabVIEW is used toanalysis the arc sound singles of the whole welding process as well as arc-striking andarc-quenching stage. The analysis includes the magnitude and correlation analysis in the timedomain, and frequency domain on the fast Fourier transformation and power spectral density analysis.The characteristics of the arc sound singles for the entire welding process can beunderstood by analyzed, especially grasp the arc sound signal for the pilot arc and arcquenching stage that makes welders have greater certainty in welding automation and weldingcontrol.
