Laser cladding is a new surface modification technology. As the important part of laser cladding, the utilization, uniformity, continuity and others of the powder which transport by the powder feeder affect the quality of the cladding layer.The paper based on the design and simulation of powder feeder of YAG laser which spot is small. First improve the structure of the powder feeding nozzle which impacts the utilization of powder. The design of double-layer protective gas passage improves the convergence and utilization rate effectively to achieve the requirements that the powder transported more precision. Then using the SolidWoks that the3D drawing software draws the geometry of the powder feeding nozzle. Then design an experiment that changes a single factor, using Fluent software simulation powder feeding nozzle’s3D flow field. Through analysis the chart of gas speed and powder particles, obtaining the reasonable value of gas speed and powder flow. On the basis of simulation,developed a control system based on microcontroller AT89S52which controls the flow of the powder conveniently, thereby improves the uniformity and continuity of transporting the powder.
