The new fiber lasers compared with traditional solid-state lasers doped with rare earth ions, due to its high efficiency, high beam quality, good spectral properties and thermal performance characteristics advantages, has important applications in various fields of national production. Especially ytterbium-doped fiber laser is widely applied. Performance of the fiber material on neodymium and ytterbium doped is researched.This paper briefly introduces the structure of neodymium and ytterbium and luminescence mechanism.and optimized the formula of glass through the experiment. According to measured data, we select matrix glass which have high transmittance and high refractive index to dope the rare earth ions and prepare laser glass with different concentrations.Then it test the performance spectra and physical properties of the samples.lt is easily to calculate parameters of the∑σabs、A(S-1)、σemi and τ rad of the sample, combining with Origin and Excel.When Yb3+Nd3+ratio is1:8,it reached for the optimal performance parameters for fiber laser.Optical fiber is design double double clad fiber on this basis and eakch size respectively:fiber core diameter of5.6μm、in cladding diameter of56μm、out sourcing layer diameter of100μm、 NA纤芯of0.13, NA包层of0.35, and drawn out flexibility good glass fiber.
