Environmental capacity refers to the maximum capacity of pollutants under the premise of the ecological system not being damaged, and human survival not being threatened. Study of water environmental capacity of the Xiangtan section, Xiangjiang River is the key to control the emission of pollutants and the control of water environment management.This paper, based on the investigation of water quality in Xiangtan section, Xiangjiang River in recent10years, is to analyze the current situation of pollution and the tendency of its seriousness of the river. According to the funtion zone of the water, we divide this section into9control units. For the requirements of water environment quality control of each control unit, we calculate the environmental capacity of each unit to identify water environmental capacity of Xiangtan section, Xiangjiang River.Through the prediction of water capacity in the driest month, we know that the capacity of COD and environmental capacity of NH3-N are5551t/a and339t/a respectively. By the present survey of water quality and calculation of water environmental capacity, we propose the measures to prevent water pollution so as to improve water quality in Xiangtan section, Xiangjiang River.
