Abstract/Summary:
Zhejiang is a mountainous province in the southeast coastal China abound with Hilly red soil resources. Typical regions with intensive distribution of low-hill red soil resources have become increasingly fragile in ecological environment. Meanwhile, confronted with the situation of uneven geological structure and relative scarcity of land resources, comprehensive exploitation of low-hill red soil resources has been an effective action to ensure land demand for economic and social development. Consequently, this development process will unavoidably challenge ecological and environmental protection. Ecological environment services as the basis for human survival and sustainable economic and social development. Regular ecological surveys and assessment is an important initiative to protect ecological environment. With the development of science and technology, remote sensing technology has been widely used in ecological survey and evaluation environment. In this paper, based on remote sensing and ground survey data, and using the remote sensing investigation and evaluation of ecological environment data in the database, the dynamic characteristics of ecological system pattern, quality, service functions from2000to2010were investigated and evaluated using GIS spatial analysis techniques. Finally, countermeasures and suggestions for ecological environment protection in low-hill red soil region were proposed. The results showed that:(1) The ecological environment in typical hilly red soil regionis overall in fair good condition but show a slight descent trend during2000-2010. Dramatic eco-environmental changes were found in local regions, especially that characterized by urban expansion.(2) With respect to dynamics of ecological composition and pattern during2000-2010, forest and wetland ecosystems presented obvious increase in area respectively which indicated promising implementation on forest and wetland protection policies. However, bushwood, grassland, farmland and bare land are all decreased in area, especially grassland and bare land with more than half losses. At the same time, the most majority of transformation within ecological type appeared in urban with an area increase of26,507.65hectares. Farmland, grassland and forest were the main resource for urban increase. (3) In terms of ecosystem quality, the biomass showed a steady ascend trend during the10years period. While, the vegetation coverage presented a slight descent trend. The decrease of vegetation coverage is mainly due to significantly reduced vegetation cover in some. These areas are high-speed economic development regions.(4) The ecosystem service function maintained in stable condition during2000-2010. On the whole, biological habitat quality and carbon fixation function remained a slight decline, soil conservation quantity didn’t show any obvious changes.
