Reactive dyes play a significant role in textile and leather industries. As one of the best choice to take place of banned dyes and other dyes used for cellulose fabrics, their demanding is increasing. As one of the most popular dyes, black reactive dyes’ consumption accounts for more than60%of reactive dyes. But so far, there is a lack of black reactive dye, which can evenly and fully absorb the whole visible light spectrum. At present, C.I. Reactive Black5is appropriate for being navy blue component in the use of getting black. However, C.I. Reactive Black5is poor in lifting property, dyeing rate, fixation rate and darkness.Due to these shortcomings, seven black reactive dyes were designed and synthesized based on H-acid intermediate in accordance with the relationship between structures and properties of reactive dyes. According to the difference in reactant, the reactive conditions were adjusted. These dyes were characterized by Vis-UV, FT-IR.The results showed that the maximum absorption wavelength of the7black reactive dyes were all within the range of590-635nm, which is appropriate for being navy blue component in the use of getting black. The dyeing properties of the seven synthesized black reactive dyes for cotton fabrics were investigated. The four dyeing performance parameters(S,E,F,R), dyeing rate, fixation rate and lifting property were evaluated. The results demonstrated that dyeing rate of D-2, D-3, D-4, D-5, D-6, D-7was respectively higher than D-1, some of which were close to or greater than90%. Fixation rate of D-2, D-3, D-4, D-5, D-6was respectively higher than D-1; that of D-7was a little lower. The dyeing performance parameters S and R were greater than that of D-1. Good lifting property of D-2could be attained at low dye concentration. Lifting property of other five synthesized dyes were satisfying.The rubbing fastness, washing fastness and light fastness of the fabric dyed respectively with these7dyes were tested according to corresponding standards and the result indicated that all of them could meet the application requirements.
