Glass reinforced aluminum laminates is composed of glass fiber reinforcedcomposite material and high strength aluminum alloy sheet to make laminationboard for alternating overlaid by using the glued technology and then solidifiedunder certain pressure and temperature. GLARE has the benefits of lighter andfatigue resistance in contrast with aluminum one-layer plate. Laminates havemore properties such as: easier machining, cutting, and better impact resistancein contrast with single plate of glass fiber composites. For the purpose of ourinspection dismounting and maintenance, we used to add some holes in GLARElaminates, which would have some influences on mechanical performance. Atpresent, we have achieved many research achievement at home and abroad butthe content of the research is not comprehensive especially rare on mechanicalperformance reference for GLARE with holes. In this paper, the mechanical performance of GLARE laminates with holesare tested through experimental method under the action of tensile load and areanalyzed and researched, experiment results of GLARE laminates with differentaperture show that: different aperture lead to different time for rupture and thesmaller the aperture is, the shorter the break time and the stronger the stressintensity of laminates is; The relationship of stress-strain curve for GLARElaminates with holes under the action of uniaxial tensile load is about the doublelinear; With the increasing of aperture, the fracture strength of the laminates issignificantly declining and the declining way presents nonlinear regularity.A finite element model is established based on the ANSYS software andgradually failure analysis method is applied. A finite element numericalsimulation analysis of GLARE laminates with holes is carried on under the sameexperimental conditions and the results are compared with simulation results and the two is in good agreement with each other, which demonstrates the accuracyof finite element model. On the basis that mentioned above, the analysis method of numericalsimulation is applied and the mechanical performance of the GLARE laminateswith holes under different layer mode are predicted and then the change law ofstress-strain curve is obtained. Different features are presented for laminates withlayer mode [AL//AL//AL] around45o, for laminates with layer mode[AL//AL//AL] when is45o, the stiffness of laminates decreased fastestafter metal aluminum layer enters the yield stage while the stiffness of laminatesdecreased slowest when is0oand the greater the angle of fiber laying is, thefaster the stiffness of laminates is falling and the fracture strength declines.
