Epoxy resin (EP) has good thermal stability, insulation, bondability,mechanical properties, forming technology diversification, which is widelyapplied in aviation and aerospace, electrical/electronics, etc. In recent years, withthe development and application of high and new technology, application areaneed high performance epoxy resin material, due to the nanometer materials hadspecial size effect, quantum effect, interface effect, quantum tunnel effect and soon, with matrix composite can greatly improve the performance of the matrix,which included two-dimensional slices montmorillonite, one dimensional fibrouscarbon nanotubes, and zero dimensional spherical silica, titanium dioxide, etc.Therefore, using nanometer materials modified epoxy resin modified hadgradually become the new hot spot.In this paper, bisphenol A type epoxy resin was modified by carbonnanotubes (MWCNTs) and montmorillonite (MMT) two kinds of nanometermaterials. The MWCNTs/EP and OMMT/EP and OMMT/MWCNTs/EP threeepoxy resin nanocomposites were prepared by mixing solution method. Thedispersing of before and after the treatment MWCNTs and MMT in acetone werecharacterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The impact strength ofcomposites was tested by simply supported beam impact apparatus, and thenanometer material toughening mechanism of resin matrix was analysised. Thebending strength and bending modulus of composites were tested. At the sametime, the effect of nano materials on the thermal performance of MWCNTs/EPand OMMT/EP and OMMT/MWCNTs/EP composites was researched.The results of the study show that: the diameter of functionalized MWCNTswas increased significantly than raw MWCNTs, the draw ratio of functionalizedMWCNTs decreased compared with raw MWCNTs. The layer spacing ofmontmorillonite which was modified by eighteen alkyl quaternary ammonium salt expanded nearly doubled times than montmorillonite. The impact strength ofOMMT/MWCNTs/EP composite material was30.4MPa, the impact strength ofMWCNTs/EP23.1MPa, the impact strength of OMMT/EP composite material16.8MPa, increasing by110%,60.4%,16.7%than pure epoxy resin, respectively.The bending strength of OMMT/MWCNTs/EP, MWCNTs/EP andOMMT/MWCNTs/EP composites were doped by27.54%,35.74%,54.12%thanpure epoxy resin.The thermal decomposition temperature of three kinds ofcomposites had obvious improvement than pure epoxy resin, the thermaldecomposition temperature of OMMT/MWCNTs/EP composites increased20℃than epoxy resin.
