The grade of the vanadium in stone coal is very low,which has led to massive emissions ofthe vanadium tailing. The majority of the vanadium tailing has been abandoned for a long time,not only take large areas of land,but also result to environmental pollution and safetyproblems.With the increasing awareness of the environmental protection, Vanadium tailing as asecondary resource has been attached importance gradually. In order to utilize the vanadiumtailings effectively,roasting ceramsites were prepared with the Vanadium Tailing as the mainraw materials,based on comprehensive analysis of the basic characteristics of the tailing.Then theproperties and microstructure of the ceramsites were investigated,the roasting process andmechanism were probed.The research contents and results are summarized as the following:1.The basic futures of the tailing,including the chemical composition,the grain size ofmineral,environmental safety and other related performance were studied,The results indicatedthat the content of the SiO2,Al2O3is qualified,and it can be used as the raw material for theroasting ceramsites.The main mineral phase composition of the tailing is quartz together with asmall amount of feldspar and augite.The environmental safety indicated that during the processof the utilization,the tailing will not pollute the environment.2.In the experiment,the influence of the content of the clay and the fly ash,pelletizingparameters and roasting conditions was studied. The results showed that when the ratio ofvanadium tailing,fly ash and clay is6:3:1, granulating water is8%,granulating time is20min,thegreen balls are roasted when preheating temperature is3500C,the time is30minutes and theroasting temperature is1180℃and the time12minutes. the bulk density of porcelain granule is691kg/m3, the water absorption is1.89percent and the compression strength is10.7MPa. XRDand SEM analysis indicated that in the process of ceramsite synthesis, mullite and amorphousstate has been generated, which significantly affected the strength of ceramsite.3. The analysis of phase composition and microstructure showed that new crystalline phasessuch as feldspar formed,together with quartz and hematite constituted the main mineralframework of the ceramsites,which were responsible for the compressive strength.
