The major purpose of this paper is to study the factors affecting lithographicprinting ink density. The influence on printing ink density of various paper propertiesand ink thickness on different papers were studied in detail in this paper.Several paper properties, i.e., roughness, glossy, whiteness, absorbance andopaqueness, were measured. And the curves to indicate the relations between thepaper properties and printing ink density were developed according to the above datagotten in the experiments of analyzing the relations of paper properties and soliddensity. We obtained the discipline about the influence on printing ink density ofpaper properties by doing research on the different characteristic curve of ink density. The result helps to control the printing quality. The ink density of different thickness and color inks on different papers weremeasured in the experiment of printing ink thickness and ink density. The curve of therelations between ink thickness and printing density was obtained. And the curveshowed the discipline of the influence on printing ink density of ink thickness. Itshows that printing ink density increases with the ink thickness while the density willremain unchanged when the ink increases to a certain thickness. The result helps toprovide a reference for practical printing process. The reflectance of paper and ink obtained according to the optical density formulais taken into the Kubelka-Munk theory to compute the scattering coefficients ofdifferent paper and different color ink were computed according to the experimentsperformed in this paper. And the ink scattering curves of various papers weredeveloped. The results help to provide a reference for practical printing process and toimprove printing quality.
