AMS6308steel is a registered trademark of Carpenter Technology corporationwhich invented a kind of alloy gear steel, commercial brand for Pyrowear alloy53,usually used in helicopter and aerospace drivertrain components and possessing goodtemper resistance, has higher comprehensive mechanical properties, the series of steel inthe American aviation gear material had already maturely apply, but is still indevelopment in our country. In order to achieve domestic production of it,to end itslong-term dependence on imports of high performance gear materials, had created ourown high performance gear material,had great value to develop our aviation industry.The essay analysis the import of AMS6308steel of composition and mechanicalproperties organization, we were experimented with development and trial-manufacture,preparated various sample of AMS6308steel. Studied the different quenchingtemperature (900~1010℃) and tempering temperature (150~700℃) affect onmicrostructure and mechanical of AMS6308steel. Through experimental research ofmechanical properties, SEM, TEM and phase analysis etc,standard heat treatmentexperimental were studied in this paper. Alloying elements of (C、Cr、Ni、Cu、Mo、V)affect on microstructure and mechanical of AMS6308steel. Combined withdifference of mechanics performance, experimental materials with the different heattreatment are made to analysis microstructure, Grain size, fracture morphology andprecipitation facies types and their distribution, we studied the research onstrengthening and toughening mechanisms of AMS6308steel.The results showed that1steel (wt%:0.1C,1.0Cr,2.0Ni,3.25Mo,2.0Cu,0.08V,0.9Si,0.4Mn, Fe Balance)had better plasticity and toughness, Strength and hardness was at a higher level, had excellent integrated mechanical properties; with oil quenchedat915℃for0.5h+cooled treatment at-80for1h+tempered at205℃for2h, steelAMS6308has excellent integrated mechanical properties; the experimental steel hadProduced secondary hardening when tempered at150~700℃, impact toughness haddropped dramatically. the scendary hardening peak at450℃, had excellent integratedmechanical properties when tempered at150~350℃, makes it suitable for gear used inaircraft industry.
