Organic modifiers containing active hydroxyl group were synthesized from castor oleicacid. Na-MMT was modified by a reaction with castor oil-based modifiers. High performanceof RPUF/organic montmorillonites nanocomposites were prepared by in situ polymerization.The research results were as follows:1、 Two novel castor oil-based quaternary ammonium (RABB and RAEB) weresynthesized from the raw material of castor oleic acid by methyl esterification reaction,aminolysis reaction and quaternization reaction. The crude yield of RABB and RAEB were93.3%and86.4%respectively.2、The Na-MMT modified with RABB, RAEB and SRD and denoted as RABB-MMT,RAEB-MMT and SRD-MMT. The best conditions of the cationic modifier and anionicmodifier as well as the effect on the apparent performance of Na-MMT were discussedrespectively. The result show that castor oil-based modifiers had intercalated into layers, andthe modified Na-MMT is superior to CTAB. The thermal stabilities of OMMTs wassignificantly improved, and among the three OMMTs, SRD-MMT has the best thermal stability.RAEB-MMT and RABB-MTM can be partially exfoliated in the layers. However SRD-MMTis manly intercalated in the layers.3、The RPUF/organic montmorillonite nanocomposites were prepared by in situpolymerization, and research the different OMMTs content on the properties of RPUFcomposites. Because RAEB and RABB contain hydroxyl groups, RAEB-MMT andRABB-MMT can be partially exfoliated in the RPUF matrices. When the adding amount ofOMMT was3%, the compressive strength of RPUF composites achieve maximum. Thethermal stability and fire retardancy of the RPUF composites were significantly, and among thethree composites, RPUF/RABB-MMT has the best thermal stability and fire retardant. Theaddition of OMMTs did not affected the thermal conductivity of the RPUF. This provides agood basis for preparation of high performance of the thermal insulation RPUF.
