With the development of science and technology and continuing progress ofsmelting technology,out-of-furnace refining has become an important part of steelmaking of the modern steel plant.Ladle argon stirring is a method which isextensively used in the course of secondary steelmaking. But a relatively high gas flowrate would cause dangerous splashing and slopping of molten steel and affect theerosion of the refractory of ladles. Meanwhile,it can also lead to slag entrapment andsecondary oxidation of molten steel and restricts the increasing of low argon gasflux. In this paper the floating character of molten steel with soak pipe is studied toincrease flow of bottom stirring and improve mixing efficiency and shorten mixingtime by water model method.150t ladle refining process have been sitimulated by1:7water modlling device.A hollow cylinder which is a model is immersed in a waterbath to inhibit the fluctuation on the surface of molten metal, thus increasing flow ofbottom stirring and shortening mixing time.Carry on the experiment to study theeffects of depth and diameter of soak pipe and flow of bottom stirring on mixing time. The results show that according to calculating actully largest airdemand which no slagentrapment happen, the allowed maximum airdemand getting through the model is0.09m3/h,mixing time is10s and amplitude is12cm in the conditions of no soak pipedipping in;In case soak pipe is inserted and the amplitude achieves12cm, themaximum airdemand allowed to blowed into the modlle is0.48m3/h, by this timemixing time is the shortest, little4.4s. By immersing soak pipe in a bath flow ofbottom can be made larger, effect of stirring is improved, the time of refining isshortened. Through data treatment and result analysis, the relationship betweenmixing time and diameter of soak pipe, depth of soak pipe and flow of bottom stirringis formulized. We arrange these elements in ascending order, they are diameter ofsoak pipe, depth of soak pipe, flow of bottom stirring.
