Poly (vinyl chloride)(PVC) is the second most common thermoplastic after polyethylene,however, the range of applications of PVC subject to certain restrictions due to brittleness andthermal instability of PVC.Poly (styrene-butadiene-styrene)/poly (n-butyl methacrylate)(SBS/PBMA)interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) were synthesized by atom transfer radicalpolymerization. The PVC/IPNs composites ware prepared with melt blending method. Thispaper was studied for the amount of SBS/PBMA effect on the mechanical properties of PVC.While added SBS/PBMA to investigation the content of SBS/PBMA impact on therheological and processing properties of the high degree of polymerization of PVC resin.The structure and morphology of SBS/PBMA were characterized by Fourier transforminfrared spectroscopy,~1H nuclear magnetic resonance, and transmission electron microscopy.Mechanical property measurements, rheological property measurements, and scanningelectron microscopy were used to investigate the effect of adding SBS/PBMA on themodification of PVC. PVC and PVC/IPNs composites were plasticated by two rollermastication in the165-170℃, hot pressing for10min on the vulcanizing press at175℃,water-cooled to50℃to remove the sample. Universal system prototype was used toTailoring samples, mechanical properties were tested by Charpy impacttest machine and theuniversal testing machine.The Experimental results indicated that the polymer SBS/PBMA had been successfullysynthesized, and the two phases has good compatibility. The addition of SBS/PBMA to PVCexpectedly increased the tensile strength, tensile modulus, and impact strength of the PVCcomposites. With increased modifier content from0%to1%, the tensile strength changedfrom48.0MPa to55.8MPa, tensile modulus varied from2456MPa to2751MPa.,Theimpact strength increased by28%and63%, respectively at23°C and-23°C. Torquerheological experiments showed that the plasticizers DOP can decrease the plasticizing time,reduce the temperature of the plasticizing and equilibrium torque. Lubricant stearic acidmainly played the role of external lubricant, and plasticizing time of HPVC resin with theincrease of dosage of stearic acid showed a trend of increase first and then increases again.The SBS/PBMA IPNs displayed some plasticizer behaviors, and can reduce plasticizingtorque. With different degree of polymerization of PVC resin research shows that the greaterthe degree of polymerization, processing performance is poor. Processing performance testsshowed that with the increase of dosage of DOP, tensile strength, elongation at breakincreased, the hardness decreased; With the increase of dosage of calcium carbonate, the tensile strength, elongation at break decreases, hardness increases; With an increase in theamount of SBS/PBMA, tensile strength, elongation at break increased, the hardness changelittle.
