Papermaking reconstituted tobacco is using tobacco stems, tobacco debris and othertobacco waste as raw material to produce tobacco sheet through papermaking process. Due tospecial characteristics of raw material and special requirement of production, traditionalwet-end additives can not be using in the production of papermaking reconsittuted tobacco.Inthis paper, guar gum derivative was synthesised on the basis of analysis of the characteristicsof tobacco pulp and was applied in the production process of papermaking reconsittutedtobacco in order to optimize proccess parameters of wet-end and upgrade wet-end technologyof papermaking reconsittuted tobacco.Firstly, the characteristics of tobacco slurry was researched and the results showed:tobacco pulp is consisted of tobacco stem fiber and tobacco leaf cell aggregates. Its PCD andZeta potential were high and respectively reached0.2185mmol/L,-8.00mV, indicating thatthere are many anionic substances in the slurry and less free hydroxy on the surface offiber. The effect of slurry consistency, Flax pulp ratio, beating degree, pH, NaCl concentration, filler add ratio,CGG dosage on charge characteristics of tobacco pulp also was analysised.Secondly, acrylamide was grafted on cationic guar gum by using ionic liguids as areactiom medium, potassium persulfate as the initiator.By four factors(monomer dosage, initiator dosage, temperature, time) and three levels orthogonal experiments and single factorexperiments, the optimum reaction condition was determined as follows: monomer andcationic guar gum mass ratio of3:1, the initiator and cationic guar gum mass ratio of1:30,60°C reaction temperature,1h reaction time. In this reaction condition, the graftcopolymerization got a95%of the grafting efficiency and175%of graft rate. Compared withthe traditional solvent method, graft copolymerized in the ionic liquid saved the volume ofthe reaction apparatus, and got a shorter reaction time. The grafted product also wascharacterized by means of FT-IR, NMR-C13, SEM and so on.Finally, retention and drainage performance of guar gum and its derivatives onpapermaking reconstituted tobacco slurry, impact of guar gum and its derivatives onwhitewater pollution load, impact of guar gum and its derivatives on physical properties ofpapermaking reconstituted tobacco sheet, respectively were researched and the results showed that adding guar gum and its derivatives was able to improve retention anddrainage performance of the slurry, improve the physical properties of the sheet and reducethe pollution load of whitewater. Synthesised CGG-g-AM showed a almost best performance, and increased FPR of fines by24%, decreased beating degree of slurry by38%, reducedSS, conductivity and CODCrof whitewater respectively by29.3%,16.0%and21.1%.
