Noise contamination from substations arouse a great deal of dispute and compensation for relocation. The problem of noise contamination becomes much more serious.This paper gives an introduction of the propagation characteristics of noise source equipments which include1000kV power transformers and1000kV high voltage shunt reactor, where the cause and spectrum characteristics of noise in subsation are fully discussed. This paper also lists the noise reduction scheme adopted in the past, which can be classified into depressing sound power level and controlling noise spreading path. A real UHV substation is modeled and analyzed by the software SoundPlan, then the main conclusions are follows:1) The location of substation should be altered if noise control level could not meet the requirement after noise depress measures is used.In the stage of designing, the general layout of substation should use the buildings to prevent the sound from traveling to sensitive point.2) The most effective measure of noise control is to depress sound power level. With the rapid construction and development of UHV power grid, the manufacturing level and technical standard will be improved, which makes the scheme of depressing sound power level is prior.3) This paper recommends the setup of noise barrier along the firewall of1000kV high voltage shunt reactor.This paper presents new thoughts and schemes on noise control in UHV substations in benefit of lowering the resources revolved in preliminary hearing of project land use, inconvenient village shift and compensation caused by noise contamination.
