The Research Of Ward Furniture For Old People Based On Modulairzation

With the rapid increase in population of the aged, we are facing serious populationageing and the medical problems of the elderly. Therefore, geriatric hospitals and geriatricdepartments in general hospitals are established. It is the result of the development of medicaltechnology and the department division according to the disease and people. On the otherhand, the design and construction of hospital wards and buildings conform to the samestandard. The wards of different departments and hospitals have the same style and medicalfurniture. The advantage of unified medical furniture and facilities is cost saving and easymanagement. However, it ignores the demand difference of patients and the functiondifference of departments. Since it is not practical to fully equip all the wards, we propose themodular design strategy of the ward furniture. The idea and methodology of modular design isapplied in the design of ward furniture. The modules can be assembled and disassembledflexibly and easily and fully exploit the usage of ward furniture, resulting in the improvementof life quality of the patients.In this thesis, we focus on the modular design of geriatric ward furniture. The theoreticalanalysis and field survey are both adopted in the research on modular design of the wardfurniture within user-friendly guideline. In the part of theoretical analysis, we study themethodology of modular design of the ward furniture; in the part of field survey, we conduct asurvey of two types of wards and three elderly people in different physical conditions, andconclude their different demands for the ward furniture. We combine the results of analysisand survey, as well as the ergonomics and environment and behaviour to develop themethodology and analysis of modular design of the ward furniture. We proof feasibility andsuperiority of our modular design of ward furniture by design practice.This topic focuses on the theory and methodology of modular design, which can be usedto solve the problem of different demands of patients for the wards furniture. This novelproposal of the modular design provides a new point view and guideline for the design ofward furniture.
