Atomic absorption spectrometric determination of trace heavy metals with theseparation and preconcentration in the sample. In the process of separation andpreconcentration, choose the separate material was the key step, it should have theability to combine with heavy metal ions, chemically stable, the adsorption capacityand strong anti-jamming capability. In this paper, we have synthesized a new type ofchelating through modified the XAD-4-PAR resin after refer to a large number of theliteratures. It was used as adsorption materials to determination by Flame AtomicAbsorption Spectrometry (FAAS) after separation and preconcentration of trace heavyelements. According to the above, a novel method for determination of the traceheavy metals were advanced. The methods were simple, accurate and expeditiousness. The major contents include five parts, there are described as follows:1. Introduction about the sources and hazards of heavy metals, detection, separation and preconcentration technology, focuses on the nature of the adsorptionmaterial, especially the chelating resin and its application in the separation andpreconcentration, and analysis of the XAD-4resin was modified and applied toseparation and preconcentration of heavy metal ions.2. XAD-4-PAR chelating resin was synthesized through grafted mothed, useXAD-4resin and PAR as reagent, and it was characterized by elemental analysis andinfrared spectrometry. And discuss its performance.3. Examined the XAD-4-PAR chelating resin of trace cadmium in the dynamicadsorption performance and studied the adsorption and desorption conditions, Theadsorption capacity was4.70mg/g. The experimental recovery rate was97%, relativestandard deviation was from1.7%to2.7%. This method was successfully used forthe determination of trace cadmium in vegetables.4. The XAD-4-PAR chelating resin as Solid Phase Extraction sorbents used inline separation and preconcentration of trace copper, established the optimaladsorption and desorption conditions. The method used to the determination of tracecopper in tobacco, the adsorption capacity was5.25mg/g, the relative standarddeviation from2.7%to3.7%, the recoveries rate was97.5%~98.5%.5. Discussed lead enrichment effect with the XAD-4-PAR chelating resin as thestationary phase under static conditions and investigated the factors affecting the lead recoveries. The method used to real samples, the static adsorption capacity was4.62mg/g. the linear range is0.05~2mg/L, the detection limit (3,n=11) is0.01mg/L,the relative standard deviation from1.9%to3.7%, the recoveries rate was94.0%~100%.
